Currys App

My Role
I created an end‑to‑end MVP within six weeks using my UXD process. I validated early concepts through testing and collaborated closely with developers to bring the designs to life before launch.
Result
I designed the full UX for both iOS and Android apps, delivering them in seven sprints ahead of Black Friday. The launch generated £1m in revenue within the first three days and achieved a 4.5 app store rating.

Research

During the discovery phase, I analysed Currys’ customer segmentation and carried out a competitor landscape review. This included examining competitor app reviews to identify opportunities to improve the new Currys apps. I also supported the business in selecting a native solution.

In the ideation phase, I sketched the entire app user journey on paper, exploring different states and interactions. From these sketches, I moved into detailed wireframes, shown below.

iOS Designs

Using the Currys brand guidelines, I created the app designs with careful consideration of icons, typography, and components. Some screens needed to be redesigned due to technical limitations on each platform.

Android Designs

I used as many native Android patterns as possible to speed up delivery and get the app to market quickly. Some patterns needed to be custom‑built to support specific experiences.

Testing

Once I had designed all the screens, I tested them to understand which layouts, copy, and interactions made the most sense to customers. Below you can see an example where I tested the FAB icon; customers found the filter icon on the right more intuitive.

Full Designs

I designed the entire app for both iOS and Android, from the homepage through to the product details page. To save time and launch quickly, I redirected customers to the mobile web version of the basket and checkout with minimal disruption to the experience.

Prototype

I created prototypes and took them into lab testing with real Currys customers to identify pain points in the design. These issues were resolved before launch. Click the homepage screen below to explore the iOS journey.

Result

The apps were launched within seven sprints, just in time for Black Friday. Popular products included Apple AirPods, iPads, and PlayStation games.
